Intarsia

Intarsia

I am offering something new in the class schedule this month, Intarsia knitting.  I like to refer to it as controlled chaos in your knitting.  Intarsia knitting enables you to introduce areas of color in any shape, size and number of colors to the background. Unlike Fair Isle knitting, that is knitted, in the round and you are able to carry your color with you and trap it along the way. Intarsia knitting is worked flat with many different yarns all going at the same time.

Knocker Club

Knocker Club

We are starting something new every Wednesday starting March 2, 2016 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.  We will be getting together to make “Knitted Knockers”. Goal Setting

Goal Setting

In my many years of teaching classes a certain problem reoccurs over and over again.  It is frustrating for the teacher as well as the student.  The student has failed to achieve the required knitting to move on to the next step; they fall behind and more often then not they give up on the project all together.

Traveling

Are you off on a grand adventure and need something to do on the plane before you reach your destination?  Might I suggest the humble sock, this is an excellent plane project.  Small and portable, you can throw them in your carry-on.

You no longer need to use double point needles for socks, my favorite needles to use are 12” circular, but there are many other methods such as the magic loop as well as using two circular needles.  If you use two circular needles I find it easier to have one needle longer then the other. With this method and the magic loop you can work two socks at a time.

We have many wonderful colors of sock yarns to choose from and if you are looking for a little more of a challenge in your sock knit we have many patterns with textured designs in the sock.

So don’t be bored on the plane to your great adventure. Pick up your needles and some beautiful sock yarn and knit your way there.

My First Sweater

My First Sweater

Are you tired of your small project and want to try something a bit more challenging?  I think it is always good to try out new things and expand your horizons.  I think I have heard most of the reasons to why most people don’t want to tackle a sweater, it is too hard, it will take to long, it won’t fit.

Longer Days

Longer Days

The days are getting longer. It is very exciting; before long, the spring flowers will be in bloom.  We still have snow on the ground and it can be very icy on my daily walks, but all in all, things look hopeful.  To celebrate, I have started knitting with one of the spring yarns that arrived a few weeks ago.

The Depths of Winter

The Depths of Winter

January is one of those months that seem to go on forever.  With the white snow and the grey skies, it can become very oppressive.  Many people I know flee the confines of this weather and go to some place warm and sunny.  But for those of us that stay behind, we need something to brighten our world.

So lets bring some color to our knitting.  This is a great time to start a Fair Isle project or a color stranded project.  If you want something small, try a pair of mittens, gloves, or socks.  We have many patterns to choose from or if you want a larger project we will help you put that together.  Try something challenging that has thirteen to twenty different colors.

Cozy time by the Fire

Cozy time by the Fire

It has not been too terribly cold for Montana with the temperature 28 for the high and 17 for the low.  All and all not bad, I still layer up with socks, mittens, scarves, (yes I wear more then one) and take my two-mile walk twice a day.  But my favorite thing to do is sit by a nice cozy fire and knit for hours on end.
