FAQ

I'm not a really experienced knitter so will I be able to do the project?

We plan projects that are accessible by knitters at various levels of experience, complexity in knitting, and interest. For those not as confident in their knitting, this can be a great time to move past some of your apprehension with experts to help you along. We also believe that it's your knitting and if you choose not to do the project, or to do it a different way, that's fine. We want you to make the most of your knitting in your way, and it's different for all of us. You still get the project yarn, whether you knit it or not!

What should I bring?

We recommend traveling light. We'll have a detailed discussion and send guidelines.

What is the schedule like?

A balanced mix of knitting, workshops and getting out to see the local sights. The day starts with coffee and knitting at our lodging, followed by a delicious breakfast. From there, we’ll either embark on an adventure  Most dinners will be at local establishments, followed by relaxing and knitting in the lounge area. The schedule allows for time alone, with others, for walks or reading.

I have physical limitations and wonder if I'll be able to manage this trip? While we do relax often, we also walk to sites for meals and tours. Longer walks are optional though some short hikes will enhance your appreciation of the natural beauty of the area. We recommend being able to walk about one mile.

How do I get from the airport to the ferry?

If you arrive in Aberdeen the same day we take the Ferry (not recommended) a taxi is the best way to travel.  The fee for the taxi is around 20.00 pounds.  I would recommend staying at the Hilton Garden Inn in the city center the night before and then walking or take a taxi to the Northlink Ferry the day that we depart.  It is about a fifteen-minute walk to the Ferry.

How do I make a reservation for the Northlink Ferry?

You can make your reservations for the Ferry online: http://www.northlinkferries.co.uk

I would suggest getting a berth for your travel to Shetland.  You may pair up or have your own room.
