Size: Directions are given for ladies’ medium (9-11).

Gauge: 4 ½ sts/inch over stockinette st using size 4

(3 ½ mm) needles

Materials:

490 yds any worsted weight wool yarn (sock shown in Brown Sheep Nature Spun worsted 730 Natural)

One set size 4 (3 ½ mm) dp needles

Note: The pattern repeat is given only once, and should be worked over all sts in the rnd except when working foot. At that point, work pattern only over the top of the foot, if desired.

Abbreviations:

K: Knit

K2TOG: Knit two together

P: Purl

P2TOG: Purl two together

SSK (slip, slip, knit): Sl 1 as to K, slip 2nd st as to K, insert LH needle in front of the 2 sts and K tog.

RT Right Twist: skip 1st st, K the 2nd st, then K the skipped st and Sl both sts from needles tog

LT Left Twist: Skip 1st st and K the 2nd st in back loop, then K the skipped st in front loop and sl both sts from needle tog

Sl: Slip stitch

DIRECTIONS:

Cuff: Cast on 48 sts evenly over three needles. Work in K2, P2 rib for 2 ½ "

Begin Pattern: Increase to 52 sts on last rnd

RNDS 1-3: K1, P2, K1, P4, K1, P2, K2

RND 4: K1, P2, LT, P2, RT, P2, K2

RND 5: K1, P3, K1, P2, K1, P3, K2

RND 6: LT, P2, LT, RT, P2, RT, K1

RND 7: P1, K1, P3, K2, P3, K1, P1, K1

RND 8: P1, LT (P2, RT) twice, P1, K1

RND 9: P2, K1, P6, K1, P2, K1

RND 10: P2, LT, P4, RT, P2, K1

RNDS 11-13: P3, K1, P4, K1, P3, K1

RND 14: P2, RT, P4, LT, P2, K1

RND 15: P2, K1, P2, K2, (P2, K1) twice

RND 16: P1, (RT, P2) twice, LT, P1, K1

RND 17: Repeat rnd 7

RND 18: RT, P2, RT, LT, P2, LT, K1

Heel Flap:

Divide sts as follows: Work first 26 sts of rnd. Divide these sts onto two needles to be worked as instep, then slide the rem 26 sts onto the first needle to be worked as the heel flap. Work heel flap back and forth as follows:

Row 1: *Sl 1, K1*, rep from * to * across row

Row 2: Sl first st, P across row

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until heel flap measures 2 ½ ". End with a right-side row.

Turn Heel:

P to center, then P2, P2TOG, P1, turn

Sl first st, K5, SSK, K1, turn

Sl 1, P6, P2TOG, P1, turn

Sl 1, K7, SSK, K1, turn

Continue as directed, working one more st each row until all sts have been worked. End with a right-side row.

Instep Shaping:

You are now ready to pick up sts along the edge of the heel flap and resume knitting in the rnd. Pick up 12 sts along edge of heel flap. With second needle, work the top of the foot in pattern stitch. With third needle, pick up 12 sts along other edge of heel flap, then work across heel to the center. The beg of the rnd will now be at the center of the heel. Place marker.

Work one rnd even. On the next rnd, dec as follows: Work across needle to last three sts, K2TOG, K1. Work across second needle. At beg of third needle, K1, SSK, then work to rnd marker. Repeat these two rnds until the number of sts is equal to the number you had at ankle.

Work even until foot measures 7 ½ " or desired length.

Toe Shaping:

RND 1: K across first needle to within last three sts,

K2TOG, K1. On second needle, K1, SSK, K to within last three sts, K2TOG, K1. On third needle, K1, SSK, K to end of rnd.

RND 2: K

Repeat rnds 1 and 2 until 12 sts remain. Weave opening closed.

Repeat for second sock.

Gauge: 4 ½ sts/inch over stockinette st. using size 4 (3 ½ mm) needles or whichever needles you need to produce the gauge given.

 
Materials:

 400 yds. any worsted weight wool yarn
 One set size 4 (3 ½ mm) dp needles
 
Note: The pattern repeat is given only once, and should be worked over all sts in the round except when working foot.  At that point, work pattern only over the top of the foot, if desired.

Abbreviations:

            CN: Cable needle
            C4F: Slip next two sts to cn, hold in front of work, K2, K2 from cn
            K: Knit
            K2TOG: Knit two together
            P: Purl
            P2TOG: Purl two together
            SSK: (slip, slip, knit)  Slip 1 as to knit, slip 2nd stitch as to knit, insert LH needle in front of the 2 sts and knit tog
            Sl: Slip stitch


DIRECTIONS:

 Cuff: Cast on 52 stitches evenly over three needles.  Work in K2, P2 rib for 2 1/2”

 Begin Aran Pattern:  On last round of rib, inc to 56 sts.  Work Aran pattern for 5” or desired length.

 Multiple of 8 sts


            RNDS 1‑3: K4, P4
            RND 4: C4F, P4
            RNDS 5‑7: P4, K4
            RND 8: P4, C4F

Heel Flap:  Divide sts as follows:  Work first 28 sts of rnd.  Divide these stitches onto twoneedles to be worked as instep, then slide the rem 28 sts onto the first needle to be worked as the heel flap.  Work heel flap back and forth as follows:


Row 1: *Sl 1, K1*, rep from * to * across row.
Row 2: Sl first st, P across row.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until heel flap measures 2 1/2”.  End with a right‑side row.
 

Turn Heel: P to center, then P1, P2TOG, P1, turn.

Sl first st, K3, SSK, K1, turn.
Sl 1, P4, P2TOG, P1, turn.
Sl 1, K5, SSK, K1, turn.


Continue as directed, working one more st each row until all sts have been worked.  End with a right‑side row.
