Woolen Collectibles Simple Mittens

Here's a pattern for a pair of simple mittens.  Enjoy!

Simple Mitten Pattern


Cuff: With size 8(5mm) D/P needles cast on 30 sts evenly over three needles.  Work K1, P1 ribbing for 3" or desired length.

Begin Main Pattern: K1 rnd then begin thumb gusset at beginning of the rnd.

Begin thumb gusset: K1in front and back of the st, M1, K to end of rnd.  K one rnd even.

Increase round: K1, M1, K2, M1, K to end of rnd.  K one rnd even.

Increase round: K1, M1, K4, M1, K to end of rnd.  K one rnd even.

Increase round: K1, M1, K6, M1, K to end of rnd.  K one rnd even.

Increase round: K1, M1, K8, M1, K to end of rnd.  K one rnd even.

Next round: Place next 11 sts on holder.  Cast on 1 sts over 11 sts on holder

Continue knitting ever rnd until piece measures 8"from cuff or desire length.

Decrease for Top of Mitten: K2, K2Tog, end with K2

K4 Rnds

K2 K2Tog end with K3

K1 rnd, Then K2Tog over all sts.

Then draw thread through these remaining sts and pull tight.  Weave in the end.

Thumb:  Place 11 sts from holder onto needle.  Pick up 4 sts in cast-on row, placing 4 of these sts on one needle and 5on one needle on the other needle.  Work the 15 sts of thumb in stockinette st until thumb is 2" long.

Decrease at top of thumb: Next rnd, K2TOG around, then work next rnd even. Next rnd, K2TOG around. Then draw thread through these remaining sts and pull tight.  Weave in the end.

Left Mitten: Work as for right mitten.
