Generously sized with a weighty hand, these cotton hand towels are hand-woven on a four-harness floor loom. Each towel has been washed and dried twice, hand ironed and ready for use. These towels can be put through the ringer: drying hands, fruits, and vegetables; mopping up spills, scrubbing stoves, and weathering the weekly laundry.
Withstanding the rigors of a busy kitchen, they remain vibrant and are still a pleasure to use.
The 21”x 32”-inch towels are hand-woven made of 60% cotton/40%Linen.
In the beginning
I start with cones of cotton thread or cotton and linen thread. Then I wind the thread onto a warping wheel. So I can thread it on to the loom.
After I have warped 512 threads. I chain those thread together to keep them organized and place them on lease sticks.
Then I lay the lease sticks across the front beam of the loom and now I am ready to start warping the loom.
Each of the 512 threads has to be threaded through the reed and then through the heddles. Now I'm ready to start weaving your dishtowel. Each towel takes about an hour and a half to weave. When all the weaving is done I take off the towels from the loom and wash and dry them. Then each towel is hemmed and gets a label. Then they are ready for your home. Enjoy!
